Advice & Assistance

A free advice service is available to clients.  A duty officer is available Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm to provide immediate advice and assistance.

The duty officers will advise clients on assistance available and if necessary refer clients on to other agencies that can assist.

Trusted Traders

The project operates a trusted trader scheme.  This is a list of reputable local contractors used by the project.  Details of traders in this scheme can be provided to clients who are looking for tradesman to carry out work which the Handyman service does not cover.

In order for contractors to be part of the scheme they have to:

•   Adhere to Care and Repairs code of conduct

•  Submit copies of public liability insurance and accreditations annually

•   Submit references from two different sources

•   Submit details of hourly rates charged

• Customer satisfaction surveys are carried out to ensure contractors are carrying out the work satisfactorily.

NB. Every care has been taken in the compilation of the Trusted Traders list, and all traders have met the conditions of the Code of Conduct of the Scheme.

We can assist by:

• Home visit arranged

• Discussing what repairs or improvements are required

• Obtaining quotations from reputable contractors

• Arrange for suitable consultants/architects for professional assistance

• Ensuring the work is completed to an acceptable standard

• Assisting with paperwork

• Helping to arrange finance

Handyman Service

If you have a small repair that needs fixing around the house and you don’t know where to turn – let us help!

We employ tradesmen who can assist with minor work such as:

• Minor Plumbing

• Electrical Work

• Joinery Work

• Minor External Work

• Small Tasks

• Security/Safety Measures

A charge of £15.00 per hour (including travel) is made for this service for those clients on qualifying benefits and all material charges costs are recharged.

A charge of £25.00 per hour (including travel) is made for this service for all other service users.

If the job is not eligible for the service or too big, we may still be able to carry out the work but the charges may vary, or we can provide a list of local reputable contractors who will carry out the work.

Affordable Warmth Project

We can assist clients obtain affordable warmth in their homes by ensuring that they have efficient and economical heating systems, and that the home has adequate insulation

We can assist by:

• Carrying out a home visit to assess the extent of works required

• Apply for any heating/insulation grants, if eligible

• Carry out energy rating on the property to establish recommended measures

• Meet with family members to discuss options

• Assist with paperwork

• Help to arrange finance

• Offer a low cost loan for the improvement works

• Obtain quotations from reputable contractors

• Ensure that works are carried out to the occupiers satisfaction
